CARDINIA residents can expect more online engagement with their local police officers in the new year with the launch of the Cardinia Eyewatch Facebook page.
The page will help Facebook users to tackle crime and to stay informed about criminal activity across the shire by keeping up to date with the latest safety and crime prevention information.
It will also give police a way of seeking direct public assistance in helping solve crimes and alert residents of recent scams to sweep the community.
This month police officers began training to how to use and take advantage of this new tool to improve police operations.
Pakenham police have been told that the Facebook page will launch in early 2017.
Similar Eyewatch Facebook pages have been rolled out to various other regions including Frankston, Geelong, Knox, the Bass Coast, the Yarra Ranges and Latrobe.
Police have advised residents that requests for police assistance should never be lodged via social media portals.
They should instead report incidents to triple zero or the local police station in the case of non-emergency crime incidents.
