THERE were approximately 530 export and 400 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 140 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating more selectively in a cheaper market.
There was a larger run of excellent quality vealers while there were fewer prime yearlings and export cattle on offer.
Heavy weight vealers eased five cents to eight cents with a lot of weight in the draft.
Yearling trade steers slipped from mostly 10c up to 20 cents, yearling heifers suited to the trade were in short supply and averaged a few cents dearer.
Grown steers and bullocks eased nine cents to 12 cents and heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers were nine cents cheaper.
Heavy weight vealers to butchers sold from 329 cents to 370 cents, yearling trade steers made between 310 cents and 350 cents, and yearling heifers to the trade sold between 283 cents and 327 cents.
Grown steers made from 292 cents to 315 cents, bullocks sold from 285 cents to 304 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made between 258 cents and 272 cents with the crossbred portion between 268 cents and 303 cents.
