A MAN caught watching pornography on his phone while driving on the freeway has been issued a string of infringement notices by police.
The West Gippsland man was sighted driving on the Monash Freeway at about 5.30am on Wednesday 23 November while his phone, mounted to the dashboard of his car, displayed an “adult film”.
Due to dark lighting before dawn, an off-duty police officer driving beside the car was able to see what the phone was broadcasting.
The 50-year-old man was interviewed by police on Saturday afternoon and made full admissions.
Sergeant James Robbins said that after 17 years in the police force, he thought he had seen it all.
“This sort of behaviour simply isn’t acceptable when behind the wheel,” Sgt Robbins said
“We want everyone to be sitting at Christmas lunch this year and silly behaviour like this is all too often means there will be an empty seat and another life lost.”
The man received two infringement notices – one for using a mobile phone while driving and the other for offensive behaviour – amounting to $1088 in fines and the loss of four demerit points.
