An erratic driver is on the run while his accomplice was arrested after smashing an allegedly stolen car into other cars on Clyde Road in Berwick this afternoon.
Police, CFA and ambulance crews were called to Clyde Road, between Greaves and Centre roads, shortly before 3pm on Monday 6 February where it was thought people were trapped in their cars.
Police believe a stolen white Nissan Skyline was travelling south on Clyde Road when it allegedly ran a red light and hit a black Toyota Corolla, about 2.40pm.
Captain Craig Sanderson from Berwick CFA said the allegedly stolen vehicle then rebounded and damaged two further cars that were parked nearby at the time.
The male driver of the Skyline fled on foot and police were searching the area with the assistance of the air wing unit and the dog squad to find him.
A 28-year-old woman believed to be a passenger in the Skyline was originally detained by passers-by and handed over to police upon their arrival at the scene.
She was arrested but was taken to Casey hospital with minor injuries and was being questioned by police.
The driver of the Corolla, a 29-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Casey hospital as a precaution.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information concerning the whereabouts of the driver is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
