Reserve seats of honour

Chairs named in their honour. On the left side, Paul Garvey, John Fromhold and David Cooper and, the right side, Graeme Ebert and Chris Gunton.

A standing ovation for a job well done is the norm.
Well, the Pakenham Upper Recreation Reserve has given that a new twist, recognising the contribution of a few stalwarts with a sitting ovation.
Chairs dotted around the reserve are now named in honour of Jim Dicker, Paul Garvey, John Fromhold, David Cooper, Graeme Ebert and Chris Gunton, who have all given great service to the reserve over the years.
The chairs and a disabled compliant outdoor table and covered area were made possible through a grant from the Cardinia Shire and contributions from the recreation reserve committee of management, Pakenham Upper Toomuc Cricket Club and the Cora Lynn Junior Football Club.
Graeme Ebert gave over 30 years of service to the recreation reserve committee, 19 of those as chairman; John Fromhold served for 27 years, 13 as secretary, Paul Garvey was on the rec reserve for 20 years, and is the current treasurer and Jim Dicker served for 17 years. Most have also given long service to local sporting clubs.
Chris Gunton has six years of service to the rec committee as chairman and played a major role in the upgrade of the facilities for football and cricket.
David Cooper was four years on the committee, and was instrumental in the funding and redevelopment of the pavilion and the reserve following the devastating Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983.
