Mechanical fault sparks fire

CFA firefighters were called to a home in Martin Place in Pakenham when a neighbour reported a car on fire in a drive way just before 2pm on Thursday 23 March.
The vehicle’s owner had been out driving about half an hour before the parked car caught fire in front of the house.
CFA Senior Station Officer David Murdoch said the fire was caused by a mechanical fault in the car but it had not spread when the fire brigade arrived.
“We had it under control pretty quickly,” he said.
No one was injured in the incident, but the burnt car is expected to be written off.
