A Pakenham childcare centre touched by the tragic death of Sergeant Ken Rich in a Good Friday accident is hosting a fund-raiser supporting cyclist safety.
Ryan Road Childcare Centre’s family fun day on the weekend will raise money for the Amy Gillett Foundation which works with all levels of government, road authorities, corporate, motoring, cycling and community safety organisations and the public to create a safer bike riding environment.
Amy Elizabeth Gillett was an Australian track cyclist and rower who, like Sergeant Rich, was tragically killed in a cycling accident.
Ryan Road Childcare Centre director Jane Rowland said the cause was one close to the centre’s hearts, with many staff members attending Sgt Rich’s funeral.
“My husband is also a keen cyclist, we’re all very aware of the need for greater road safety,” Ms Rowland said.
Saturday’s fund-raiser will include something for everyone.
A sausage sizzle, stalls, jumping castle, pony rides, face painting and music are just some of the entertainment planned.
The centre will also run an open day to coincide with the fund-raiser, giving perspective families the opportunity to view the facilities, including the swim centre, and chat to staff.
The fund-raiser will be held on saturday 27 May from 10.30am to 1pm.
Entry is via gold coin, with all funds going to the Amy Gillett Foundation.
