Driver trapped under ditch crash car

The driver's vehicle left the gravel on Murray Road in Vervale.

All emergency services were called out when a man became pinned under his car in a deep roadside irrigation drain.
The driver’s vehicle left the gravel on Murray Road, near Dessent Road in Vervale at 7.50pm on Wednesday 17 May.
Sergeant Allen Inderwische said the vehicle rolled upside down into a two to three metre deep ditch.
The 53-year-old from Garfield tried to escape from the car only to be pinned under his vehicle.
CFA, SES and ambulance members attended the rescue.
Dandenong High Angle Rescue Leading Firefighter Daniel Tawse said his team was last on the scene after the road rescue team deemed the job too difficult without ropes to winch the man to safety.
“It took 40 minutes to assist the man out of the ditch,” he said.
The driver of the vehicle was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with injuries to his right arm and shoulder.
Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.
