With more than 300 entries on display, the weekend’s Art Show Pakenham is sure to have something for everyone.
Now in its 41st year, the show provides a mix of contemporary and classic artworks which respect the show’s beginnings.
“We think it’s really important to respect the traditional nature of the show,” art show president Jillian Ronald said.
Formerly part of the Yakkerboo Festival, the Art Show Pakenham has showcased the work of local artists since 1976.
This year established artists Do Noble and Sue Jarvis will again offer their works for sale, as too will a group of emerging artists.
Attendees will be able to take home artwork in a variety of mediums including paintings, sculptures, mosaics, prints and collages.
Ms Ronald said a much anticipated highlight of the opening night was the wearable art parade.
Now in its third year, Ms Ronald said the wearable art category brought “a real contemporary edge” to the show as well as embracing the performance aspect of the parade itself.
This year’s judges of the 25 categories are Janine Good, a painting tutor at Living Learning Pakenham, and Jacquie Nichols-Reeves, the senior arts officer in charge of managing the City of Whitehorse Art Collection, a significant local government collection of almost 1700 items.
Art Show Pakenham will be held at the Pakenham Hall, corner of John and Henry Streets.
The official opening kicks off on 26 May at 7pm, with general viewing on 27 and 28 May.
