Buyers demand quality

A good quality yarding on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange saw all categories lift on average, with the yarding overall rising five cents to 321.4 cents.
There were no bullocks penned, heifer numbers were lighter but demand for quality head resulted in the heifer pens rising 19 cents.
Extra steers sold to stronger demand and some lighter pens on offer attracted re-stockers, vealer numbers were steady on the previous week and also sold to stronger demand.
Forty-five heifers topped at 338.6 cents, back four, and averaged 305.9 cents, up 19 cents, 43 steers topped at 355 cents, up 28 cents, and averaged 286.5 cents, up five cents, 288 veal topped at 387.6 cents, back eight cents, and averaged 334.9 cents, up four cents.
The bull sale on Thursday was stronger with 16 head topping at 326.6 cents, up 16 cents, and the bull average was 12 cents better at 267.8 cents.
Quality and weights were improved, nine bullocks made to 275.6 cents and averaged 252.1 cents, up four cents, and there were 286 cows penned which sold to a top price of 286.6 cents, back two cents, with an average firm on last week at 202.3 cents, and this week’s yard average was steady at 208.8 cents.
