Market struck with winter chill

There were approximately 390 export and 150 young cattle penned representing an increase of 70 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a generally firm market.
Quality remained mixed with fewer cattle suited to the trade and a lift in grown steer and bullock supply while there were still winter affected cattle scattered throughout.
Trade cattle sold to firm demand with some dearer sales reflecting an improvement in quality.
Grown steers eased a couple of cents while bullocks sold firm. Friesian and crossbred manufacturing steers lifted slightly.
Vealers to butchers sold from 312 cents to 355 cents, yearling trade steers made between 322 cents and 336 cents, yearling heifers to the trade sold between 286 cents and 335 cents, grown steers made from 292 cents to 312 cents to processors with a pen of heavy feeders selling to 316 cents.
Bullocks sold from 288 cents to 307 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made between 265 cents and 280 cents with the crossbred portion between 274 cents and 295 cents.
