The Rotary Club of Berwick made two substantial donations at its 23 August meeting.
One was to Berwick College from the funds raised through the recent deb balls.
This will go towards building a shelter for students who now have to stand outside for assemblies without cover.
Berwick College Principal Kerri Bolch said she has worked in partnership with Rotary for 30 years and, as usual, the club had put back a great deal into the school community.
The guest speaker for the evening was Rhonda O’Connor, Director of Mission, who also received a donation from the club, which is a long-time supporter of the community entity.
The group also heard the latest on St John of God Berwick Hospital’s new building.
A hospital representative told the meeting that its recruitment campaign, now closed, attracted more than 3600 applications for 250 positions.
It was also informed of the hospital’s plans for relocation, which include a move, to ease transition.
The new hospital is on track to open on Thursday 18 January with all its current services.
