Officer Station’s car park will be temporarily closed while VicTrack works to deliver 165 new parking spaces.
According to VicTrack, the station was identified as a “high demand location” as passenger numbers on the Pakenham line continue to grow.
“The car park at the station is full before the end of the peak period, indicating that more parking is needed,” VicTrack stated in its project report.
A community consultation session was held in November 2016 to obtain community feedback on the station.
Additional car parking was one of the main requests from residents, with many asking for a multi-storey car park.
In response VicTrack said “the program budget can only accommodate a finite number of parking spaces across the approved sites and these have been allocated”.
To address community concerns, the car park will be in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act and Disability Standards for Public Transport Accessibility, providing access for all-abilities.
The new car parks will also be designed with water sensitive urban design requirements in mind to reduce concerns about drainage.
As part of the works, CCTV security will be installed, and new low-maintenance landscape included.
Existing significant trees will be preserved “where possible”.
Commuters are advised to find alternative parking during the car park’s closure, which will be between Saturday 23 September and Friday 6 October.
The project is part of a $20 million State Government investment over the next three years to provide over 2100 new parking spaces at Victoria’s busiest stations.
