Cardinia Shire Council has awarded contracts for approximately $3 million in road upgrades.
QR Constructions from Gippsland will reconstruct 6.1kms of three roads at a cost of $2.11 million.
Manks Road, Dalmore, between Adams Road and Tooradin Station Road; Hall Road Pakenham South between McDonalds Drain bridge and Kooweerup Road; and Seven Mile Road in Nar Nar Goon between the bridge near Bourke Road and Whitta Lane, will be reconstructed as part of the works.
Approximately 70 other rural and urban road segments throughout the shire totalling 27km will also be resealed at a cost of $971,779.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Brett Owen said the three roads to be reconstructed were identified as a high priority due to high traffic volumes and their high maintenance costs.
“We are committed to maintaining all council roads in a safe and functional condition, however as council is responsible for more than 640kms of sealed roads, a great number of competing projects need to be evaluated and work prioritised each year,” councillor Owen said.
“Sections of these three roads have deteriorated over time, requiring ongoing maintenance and a decision has been taken to reconstruct those sections and at the same time carry out drainage improvements to ensure better longevity of the new road pavement.”
Existing sealed roads that require resurfacing, based on their age, road classification and traffic volumes, have also been identified and will be funded under the council’s 2017/18 Capital Works Road Resealing Program.
QR Construction will carry out the spray sealing component of the reseal program.
In addition to the pavement renewal and resealing program, the council has also funded the asphalt patching and replacement of line markings across the remainder of the sealed network with to improve the safety and standard of road surface.
