GARFIELD really had no business winning its clash with the Warragul Industrials at Western Park on Saturday.
But the Stars – despite trailing for most of the day – just willed themselves to victory off the back of a vintage performance from skipper Ned Marsh across half-back in his last game before departing for Europe for six weeks.
After their four-point victory – 9.8 (62) to 8.10 (58) – Stars player-coach Joel Morgan was beaming with pride.
“That’s all heart, boys,” he said to the group straight after they belted out the song.
“Things haven’t always gone our way this season, but that’s just grit and heart.
“It’s the win we needed, and this is the feeling we needed as a group.”
Dusties player-coach Shane Brewster and playing assistant Tye Holland were again brilliant in the engine room for their side, as was Michael Ablett, but Stars youngster Tim Hatherall could hold his head high after a tireless effort in his tagging role on Holland and Tyson Payne, Jay Engellenner, Harley Lacunes and John Atwell – particularly in the decisive final term – were just enormous.
The result leaves the Dusties in eighth on the ladder with a 5-5 record. Incredibly, all five of their losses have been by under 20 points.
