Sing-along on Sunday

St Andrew’s Berwick Uniting Church is inviting the community join in for the annual Hymn Fest on Sunday 16 June.

The church’s first ever Hymn Fest was held in 2017 as a special event to coincide with the 160th anniversary of their congregation in Berwick.

The concept for a Hymn Fest was created to have an afternoon filled of music for the congregation to sing a long list of “good old fashioned loved hymns”.

There will be performances by the church choir, musicians, soloists and the band ‘Journey Bound’.

All hymns will be accompanied by Fincham pipe organ, which is 60-years-old this year and was previously at Scots Presbyterian Church in Dandenong before moving to Berwick in 1984.

“Our first inaugural event was a great success and we had a full church,” music director and church councillor Matthew Clark said.

“It was said to us that it was a must that we made it an annual event. 2018 was even bigger, we had an overflowing church and the event was selected to be part of the 2018 City of Casey Winter Arts Festival.

“We have once again been fortunate to have this year’s event selected to be part in the 2019 City of Casey Winter Arts Festival.”

This year’s event will feature the regular popular line up – a long list of favourite hymns for the congregation to lift the ceiling of the church.

St Andrew’s Church choir will sing a selection of anthems, ‘Journey Bound’ will entertain with various Gospel songs and the soloist will be singing sensation Monique Churchill who is not only a qualified music teacher in Cranbourne, but her credits include channel 7’s Australia’s Got Talent, Opera Australia, musical theatre and much more.

The event will begin at 2pm and entry is $10 which will go to community outreach fundraising. An afternoon tea afterwards will be provided.
