BERWICK’S cemetery is looking in top shape after the Rotary Club of Berwick completed its 47th annual working bee on the site.
As part of the club community project, more than 45 Rotarians got involved to help maintain the appearance and function of the cemetery.
In past years the club has rebuilt the entrance and resurrected the gates in Inglis Road, and refurbished the rotunda.
On this occasion, the rotunda and wrought iron around the graves were re-painted. Neglected gravesites were tidied up and general maintenance was provided throughout the grounds.
Rotarians also helped to establish new garden areas around recent plantings of callistemons which had previously been purchased with a grant from the Rotary club. The club staged its ritual barbecue for the workers upon completion of work at nightfall and club president John Rosenthal thanked the Rotarians for their efforts.
The cemetery trust was represented at the barbecue by manager Trevor Thompson, Mark Sweeney and Betty Funston.
Mr Thompson expressed the gratitude of the cemetery trust for the ongoing work of the Rotary club in maintaining and improving the cemetery.
