Young Cobras are shaping up

THE Cora Lynn Cobras will join fellow newcomers Lynbrook in a re-invigorated Dandenong and District Junior Football League next season.
Cora Lynn Football Club secretary Natalie Pullen said the junior club was formed to make sure junior players from the Pakenham teams would not miss out on the competition.
“At this stage Pakenham have said there will most likely be heaps of kids that they can’t take this year,” Pullen said.
“It will give the kids who may miss out in Pakenham another option; we’re not too worried about skill levels, we just want to make sure all the kids that want to play can get a game.”
The club will start with an under-nine and an under-11 team but hopes to have a team at all junior level age groups (under-nine to under-12) within the next few years.
“If there is a demand for more teams at our registration day we will look at forming more,” Ms Pullen said
She said having a junior team in the area would help strengthen the senior sides.
“We are in a position at Cora Lynn where we don’t have any feeder groups of juniors in our area and it will be a real benefit to the club to have the younger players coming through,” she said.
“Many of our senior players already come from Berwick, Pakenham and Narre Warren so it will be great if our juniors from other regions come back to play as seniors.”
The club will use the Cora Lynn football ground and will have the same uniform as the senior level players.
Once players have registered the club will also be on the lookout for committee members, coaches and trainers and the club will be run by a sub-committee of the Cora Lynn Football Club.
The registration day will be held on Sunday 28 February between 10 and noon at a venue still to be decided.
Meanwhile, a registration day for Cora Lynn’s EDFL junior sides – under-13 and under-15.5 age groups played on Saturdays – will be held on Sunday, 31 January from 12-2pm at Cora Lynn Recreation Reserve.
