Plan to be well

CARDINIA Shire Council launched its Municipal Public Health and Well-being Plan 2009-13 last week, in front of more than 20 people.
The plan will assist in developing a community where residents can achieve maximum health and well-being over time.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Graeme Legge said residents, the business community, councillors and council staff and management all had a role in creating a better place to live.
“We all have a responsibility to ourselves and to those for whom we care, to support living and working in a way that maintains or enhances health and well-being,” Cr Legge said.
“This plan provides a balance between the role of council, individuals and other organisations, in undertaking actions that will make a difference to residents.”
Actions include encouraging community grant applications to council for health and well-being initiatives, upgrading local parks and reserves, supporting the set-up of community gardens and advocating for more locally based heath services.
The plan also aimed to use council resources as efficiently and cost effectively as possible in creating healthy vibrant communities and to seek external funding where appropriate.
The Municipal Public Health and Well-being Plan 2009-13 is now available online at the Cardinia Shire Council website www.cardinia.vic.gov.au.
