Two injured in two-car crash

A BUNYIP man suffered cuts and bruising to his head after a two-car collision on the South Gippsland Freeway in Hallam last week.
The 52-year-old was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition while a Lynbrook woman in the other car was trapped for an hour before being taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.
Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Sergeant Pat McGavigan said the incident occurred at 7.50am on Wednesday 3 February, 50 metres north of the Princes Highway.
Intensive care paramedics and advanced life support paramedics from Dandenong arrived at the scene within nine minutes.
Intensive care paramedic Tim Jobling said there was extensive damage to the cars.
“It was a nose to tail collision with the front car coming to rest on the bonnet of the other vehicle,” Mr Jobling said.
“While rescue crews worked to free the woman, we put a drip in her arm and gave her some pain relief as well as pain relief through a nasal inhaler.
“A neck brace was also fitted given the potential for spinal injuries.”
The 55-year-old woman, driving a 2008 Holden Barina, suffered fractures to her arms, her right ankle and possibly some ribs.
