Brookers go down

GEMBROOK travelled away for the second week of their clash with Lang Lang.
After posting 156 the week before and with Lang Lang resuming at 1/36 overnight, a win was always going to be a tough ask. To their credit they toughed it out as the Tigers took a long handle to the attack. Daniel Morris 2/18 and Scott Anderson 2/32 bowled well for the Brookers.
Lang Lang declared their innings at 8/229 in the hope of an outright victory. In their second dig Gembrook batted very well to score 3/104 off their allotted 43 overs.
Jake Bardwell with 21 runs supported veteran Anthony Williams, who made a fine unbeaten 61. The Brookers look to finish their season strongly against Lyndhurst next week.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:F Grade

After being dismissed for a paltry 77 last week and having Upper Beaconsfield already passed their score Gembrook knew they were in for a tough battle, heading into day two. The visitors declared at 5/89 claiming first innings points. Asked to bat again Gembrook put in a spirited performance, with wily veteran Matt Bardwell starring with the bat making 95 before a direct hit run-out denied him of a much deserved century. He received good support from Aaron Matthews (18) and Mark Edwards (15).
A sporting declaration at 6/169 saw the closure of the innings, with Upper Beaconsfield requiring 158 for victory. Off 21 overs they managed 6/114. Alex Bowyer led the way with two wickets, singles to Kidman Johnstone, Mark Edwards, Liz and Ruth Bardwell. A great fight back from the young Brookers.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:Under 17’s

After a being bowled out for just 27 last week Gembrook’s Under 17’s knew a more determined effort was needed coming into the second week and that’s exactly what they showed. Nar Nar Goon batted a second time and set Gembrook 166 to win. A great fighting effort from Liz Bardwell at number three saw her retire with a splendid 53. She was well supported by her sister Ruth (13) and the ever improving Matt McLennan 9*.
A great improvement from a young Gembrook side that is getting better by the week. The Club also congratulates Liz and Jake Bardwell who have both been selected in the U17’s North Team to play a 20/20 curtain raiser before the senior match between Cardinia and Koo Wee Rup on at Pakenham Upper this Sunday.
