Nyora misses out on finals action

AN inspired four-wicket haul by Nyora’s Kevin Toogood failed to stop Emerald chasing down 167 for a win in District Division on Saturday.
The loss means an end to Nyora’s finals chances this season.
With Nyora needing to win the game to keep its finals hopes alive, there was pressure to take early wickets.
Toogood answered the call bowling superbly, taking his wickets in quick succession including two in his first over.
He and Jake Hackett combined well, with Hackett showing he is a high-class wicketkeeper.
This saw Emerald stumble to 6/85. The Emerald captain then played a swashbuckling cameo that put the game back in its favour, pushing the score onto 141 before Tagliaferro deceived him and Morrison took the catch.
At 7/141 the game was still winnable, but with a combination of luck and patience Emerald was able to guide the team home.
Paul Paterson showed his talent taking two wickets late in the game.
An interesting dismissal from Ferguson – Toogood took a sharp catch in close only to throw down the stumps at the non-strikers’ end, running out the batsman on 71.
With a few confused people on the field, the striker walked off the ground a little bewildered.
Toogood was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 4/46 off 17. Paterson (2/13 from 5.3) was the only other multiple wicket taker for the day.
Emerald finished all out for 209, which means that Nyora’s finals chances are over for the year.
