Seagulls fail to corral Bulls

TOORADIN failed to defend its modest 101 that was easily run down by Cardinia for a win in Premier Division on Saturday.
The Bulls were 6/258 when stumps were drawn.
Tooradin failed to break the partnership of 147 between J. Nooy and S. Paterson.
Its wickets were shared with Steve Hamill (2/31 from 15 overs), Brenton Adams (2/61) and Matt Finch (2/63).
Justin Hinkley took four dismissals behind the stumps in a return to Premier.

Tooradin had a close and exciting game against St Francis Old Collegians, winning by three runs.
Chasing Tooradin’s score of 217, St Francis resumed at 0/7.
The Seagulls took a couple of early wickets to have it 2/24 when Rick Holland and Rory Alder both took wickets.
Aaron Brooks took the third wicket and Rick Holland snared Anthony Shepherdson (17) and the score was 4/54.
Chris Shepherdson then gave a fine exhibition of batting as he dominated the innings to score 115 before he was well caught by Dave Freeman from Aaron Brooks’ bowling.
At 9/201, St Francis tailenders then put up some stubborn resistance for the next nine overs before an excellent throw by Brendon Jones had a direct-hit run-out to dismiss the final batsmen with the score on 214.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:C GRADE

Tooradin had an excellent victory over top team Officer and have kept its chances of a top two spot alive.
The Seagulls scored 143 and had Officer 2/28 at stumps last week.
Officer had a 51-run partnership before Greg Bethune dismissed Peter Tucker for 26.
Darren Mantel snared the important wicket of Peter Quinn and Officer was 4/81.
Peter O’Hare bowled well and picked up the next two wickets.
At tea, Officer was 7/105 from 40 overs.
Peter Stone was in sparkling form behind the stumps and took four catches and one stumping.
Eventually Officer was dismissed for 127 in 50 overs.
All bowlers did well with Dale Bethune (2/24), Peter O’Hare (4/46), Greg Bethune finding good form at the right time of the year (3/42) and skipper Darren Mantel (1/12).
A narrow victory to the Seagulls.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:E GRADE

With only 125 to defend against Pakenham Upper-Toomuc, Tooradin needed early wickets.
Ross Simpson clean bowled opener Temby to have the Yabbies 4/26.
From this point though, Craig Spicer batted his team to victory.
Stumps were drawn with the home side 5/138.
Shane Somers took 1/26 and Ross Simpson 1/19.
Daniel Quinn could have added to his three wickets from day one with an ounce of luck. He continually beat the outside edge and finished with 3/38 from 21 overs.
Tooradin beaten by a better side must now face second-placed Cranbourne Meadows to ensure a finals berth.

Tooradin narrowly defeated Kilcunda-Bass when it passed the score of 97 in the 38th over.
Tooradin started badly and was 4/32 after 20 overs.
Another good partnership of 23 took place between Tim Lenders (16) and Nic Simpson before Tim was caught.
Tooradin lost another wicket and was 6/49 in the 28th over.
Cody Gramberg joined Simpson and had a 17-run partnership before Cody was caught for nine.
Tom Cam (four) stayed with Simpson to see the score move to 8/83.
The Simpson brothers came together and with Rohan playing some great shots and Nic keeping his composure, the Seagulls passed the opposition’s score in the 38th over.
Nic retired on 41 and Rohan remained 15 not-out with Jasper Donaldson two not-out and the score was 8/120 at stumps.
A good win with co-skipper Nic Simpson holding the innings together.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 13

Tooradin was beaten by Beaconsfield by 11 runs.
Chasing its score of 130, the Seagulls had a great start by Callum Underwood (27) and Owen Johnstone (33 retired).
Two run-outs at the start let Beaconsfield back into the game when Jake Dean went for 14.
Tooradin was well placed at 4/94 in the 30th over.
However the team struggled to get another partnership going with Joel Mackie (six), John Connor (five) and Mitch Simpson (four) tried to catch the Beaconsfield total, but were both run out with two overs to spare.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:UNDER 11

Tooradin travelled to Nyora and again had a close game.
The Seagulls had an opening partnership of 50 between Brad Butler and Ned Harrison for the best score for the year.
In bowling Butler took three wickets and Harrison one in a good performance.
