Winning combination

BEACONHILLS golfers competed in the M. F. Ahearn Shield, a mixed event played in Canadian Foursomes format, on Sunday.
The winners were Vanessa Tranfield and Ben Taylor, who with a combined and adjusted handicap of 4 1/8 shot 72 off the stick for a nett score of 67 7/8.
Jann Wilson, Heather Hamilton, Eric Wilson, Rosalie Leake and Neil Baron each accounted for a nearest the pin. Phil Read was the A Grade winner of Tuesday’s competition with 42 stableford points and Bert Gruber was the B Grade winner with 41 points.

On Thursday Graham Kelly won A Grade with 41 points and Peter Carr B Grade with 42 points.
The top eight players in the Grand Masters Championship for the over 65 age group on Thursday put in a fierce competition.
Ron Livermore won the gross event, scoring 251 (84, 85 and 82) over three rounds. Peter Versteege was just behind him with 255. The nett was decided after the second round and a countback was needed for Gordon Greenway (62, 73) and Ron Aimer (69, 66), who finished on an excellent nett 135. Defending nett champion Ron Aimer with the better second round was declared the winner on a countback.
Three events have been decided after the third round of the club championships. Greg Seymour had the best nett score of the day on a countback and was declared the winner of the David McKinnon trophy. Roy Solomon is the 2010 veteran’s champion, scoring 239 and Hayden Nisbet is the junior champion after scoring 233.
The daily competition winners were Greg Seymour in A Grade with 67 on a countback. Ian Matthews in B Grade with 67 and young Luke Whitworth in C Grade had an excellent personal best round to win with a nett 63. Will Garner was the winner of the Junior 9-hole competition with 31 nett. Sunday’s daily competition was a 2 Ball Aggregate Stableford and Geoff Styles and Mick Nealon were the best team on the day with 80 points between them.

C Grade: Charlie Miranda, Greg Broom, Michael Utting, Ian Treadwell, Arthur Bailey, Brian Fiddes, Ross Millard and Gordon Greenway on a countback from Glen James.

Ann Felgate played an excellent round, shooting 79 off the stick for a nett 67 to win the daily competition and put her into the lead in the club championships after the second round on the Wednesday side of the draw. On the Saturday side of the draw, Vanessa Tranfield leads after shooting 77 in the second round.
Going into the third round, Rosalie Leake is leading B Grade on Wednesday and Libby Michell on Saturday. Helen Lange just leads C Grade from Deb Williams and it is also very close on Saturday in C Grade between Lyn Haag and Hayley Conn. Bev Eckhardt and Helen Lange are tied in the veterans.
