Pair play up a storm

AFTER a brief storm threatened to end play early, Saturday’s Don Piner Memorial two-person ambrose event at Drouin was completed without any further interruptions.
The morning and afternoon shotgun starts saw 112 players take part. Stuart Low and Frank Clebney took the honours with nett 62 3/4, just edging out Goran Danilov and Fred Gajdobranski 63.
Next in line were Jason and Darryl Brain 63 3/4, Hayden Smart and Dave Wouters 63 3/4, Gordon Warren and Paul Matthews 64, Graham Rawson and Glenn Flowers 64 1/4, Scott Squires and Damien Bibby 64 3/4.
The ladies winners were Bev Goodwin and Marg Purell with 68 3/4.
After the pro-am on Tuesday a smaller than usual field of 85 players competed in the Wednesday stableford event. Fred Gajdobranski (9) took a further shot off his single-figure handicap on the way to winning A Grade with 41 points. Runner-up was Angus McArthur on a countback from David Ferguson, both with 38.
B Grade went to Ben Wyatt (19) with 41 points. He also lost a shot from his handicap. Runner-up was Alan Wilson 39.
Brian Thorpe won C Grade with 39. Runner-up was Ray Mooney on 38 on a countback from four players: Lester Smethurst, Norman Dorling, Alan Fairlie and Peter Johnson 38.
Balls down the line went to 37 and the CCR was 70. This Saturday is the March monthly medal and there is a stableford event on Monday, Labour Day.

Thursday 25 February was the weekly par event. A Grade winner with +1 was Marg Purcell, with Shirley Todd, also +1, runner-up on a countback. B Grade went to Shelley Buick (+3). Marion Devlin was runner up with +1.
Nearest the pins were Karen Adams (14) and Marg Mitcham (17). Karen Adams again picked up the pro pin. Down the line balls went to Joyce Pierrehumbert (sq), Sherrie Abel (-1) and Karen Adams (-1).
The nine-holers saw Jan Stone with 14 points and Edna Cropley runner-up with 13.
This week’s event is the monthly medal.

It was men only for the seniors’ nine-hole competition last Thursday, as the ladies played 18 holes in lieu of their Tuesday game with the day reserved for the pro-am.
Joint winners were Con Norris and Brian Kemp with 21 points each.
Runners-up were Jim Gregory, Bill Todd, Joe Coggins and Rolf Loebert, each on 20, and Phil Edwards and Graham Dorling with 19 points each.
