Pakenham set for third Probus club

THE Rotary Club of Pakenham is investigating demand for a third Probus Club in town.
Rotarian Laurie Hudgson said Rotary, which instigates Probus Clubs, would probably host an interest meeting this month.
Mr Hudgson said the Pakenham East Probus Club was founded just four years ago with 42 members, but has since ballooned to about 120, with a further 18 on a waiting list.
The original Pakenham Probus Club, started in 1989, also has around 120 members on its books.
“It will be a first in Pakenham’s time, but some areas like Rosebud have as many as four or five (clubs),” he said.
Mr Hudgson said there had been interest from residents of Cardinia Waters Retirement Village, but it was too early to say where the new club would be based.
Details of an interest meeting should be confirmed soon.
Mr Hudgson, himself a member of Pakenham East Probus Club, said it offered a range of activities for older members of the community.
“It’s the company aspect that goes with meeting fellow retirees and it’s not a fundraising organisation, so you don’t have to go out and sell raffle tickets and things like that,” he said.
“Probus is just a group of people who like going out and having fun. We have office bearers of course and then general interest groups ranging from craft to walking.”
