Prices remain steady

GOOD quality vealers last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange rose three to four cents on average with light store types selling to good demand, although their price remained fairly steady with the 499 head yarded prices ranging dramatically.
Heavy veal made from 99.2 cents to 223.2 cents and light veal 90 cents to 214.6 cents.
One hundred and ninety nine steers eased marginally to 153.5 cents with the light end slipping more than usual, heavy steers ranged from 115 cents to 176.6 cents and light 87.6 cents to 159.6 cents.
One hundred and four heifers all but stood still in price with less than one cent change in the average.
Quality was very good, as was demand. Heifers in the heavy category ranged from 109.6 cents to 192.6 cents with light heifers making from 110 cents to 140 cents.
Two hundred and seven bullocks managed an easing in price of six cents with a lower ratio of the heavier, finished bullocks penned.
Bullocks averaged 163.1 cents at this sale and ranged in price from 132 cents to 178.2 cents.
A higher ratio of very light condition cows kept the prices back on Thursday with prices dipping to the low 60s for some.
Beef and solid dairy cows sold strongly which would, in effect, have kept the average this week equal to last week if not marginally better.
Heavy cows ranged from 63.6 cents to 153.6 cents and light 111.2 cents to 137.6 cents.
Thirty one bulls gained again this week rising three cents to 137.2 cents and made from 114 cents to 155 cents.
Bullocks also rose in value lifting five cents to 153.6 cents to range from 142 cents to 165 cents.
