Dutch treat

TOORADIN co-captain Ricky “Dutchy” Holland has taken eight wickets, including a hat-trick, to lead his team to a crushing 222-run semi-final win over Cranbourne.
In what was described as “simply phenomenal bowling” by Tooradin Cricket president Barry Freeman, Holland took 8/15 off 10.3 overs with the best of them being the wicket of Josh Paxton-White.
After taking the wicket of captain Shane White, then clipping the bail of Scott Savage the next ball, Holland knew exactly what he had to do to remove Paxton-White despite the bounty of advice he was receiving from the boundary line.
“All the premier cricketers were there lending advice … saying to bowl a wrong ’un or do an animal impersonation. I’m known for doing the bull and the elephant (impersonation during the run-up),” Holland said. “In the end the batter took guard six inches outside of off-stump so there was nothing else left to bowl but an in-swinging yorker,” Holland said.
After effectively executing the yorker to remove Paxton-White’s bails, Holland then proceeded to run around the ground “like a seagull” until his teammates and spectators, who had jumped the fence, caught up with him.
Holland’s career-best figures could not have come at a better time for his team as Tooradin went on to bowl out Cranbourne for 32 – 222 runs short of Tooradin’s first innings total of 254. Holland and Tooradin will now play Beaconsfield in the grand final next week.
