Theft from cars on the rise

LOCK up before you leave.
Residents in Kooweerup and Lang Lang have been reminded to lock their cars and homes following a recent spate of thefts from unlocked cars in town.
Kooweerup Acting Sergeant Sam Knight said in recent weeks local police had noticed a large increase in the number of thefts from cars and says residents will reduce the risk of being stung if they lock their doors.
“People think that because they live in a country town they don’t have to lock their doors,” she said.
“But the reality is that people from other areas are always coming through and by leaving your car doors unlocked with your purse on the street – it gives those people the opportunity.”
Acting Sgt Knight said the majority of items reported as stolen include GPS systems, mobile telephones and wallets, all the usual items expected to be targeted.
Anyone who sees someone acting suspiciously or has information regarding any thefts in Kooweerup or Lang Lang should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
