Indi comes out of her shell

By Lilly O’Gorman
MOST pups like to chew, but
Cody Hill’s French Bulldog Indi
has one unusual habit that not
many other little dogs would
share.
“She bites the shells off snails
and then leaves them. She just
pulls them off.” Cody said.
Without eating or crushing it,
she just pulls off the shell then
leaves both pieces on the veran
dah.
Her precise and studied tech
nique is not the only reason you
feel that Indi has a patience beyond
her years. She has already learned
to sit, at only 15 weeks old and with
only five weeks’ training from
Cody.
“She is very smart and
healthy,” Cody said.
“Usually pups cry but she went
straight to bed when we put her
outside. The first night, when
everyone was asleep, I went out to
check on her and then I went back
to bed.”
Cody is nine years old and the
type of kid with perpetually grass-
stained knees that never sits still –
it’s not hard to see what cultivated
Indi’s fearless and energetic
demeanour.
He thought the name Indi suit
ed her because she likes exploring
– like Indiana Jones.
“She is really good because she
is confident. The only thing she is
scared of is the big blue exercise
ball.”
A bit of an explorer himself,
Cody spends every night with Indi
after school running amok in the
backyard.
Currently Indi is helping Cody
build a cubby house by collecting
sticks.
“I made a new cubby and I have
made a little place for her to get in
through the bottom,” he said.
“It would be so boring if I didn’t
have a dog. There wouldn’t be any
thing to do outside.”
Cody received Indi as a pres
ent, after searching online with his
mum Sue to find the perfect breed.
“My mum and I went on the
computer all the time to look at dif
ferent breeds of bulldogs. We
found the French Bulldog which
looked pretty good,” he said.
“She makes me feel happier.
She is the best.”
Cody’s advice for owners of a
new puppy is to invest time and
love into them and have the
patience to teach them knew
things.
“We made her a little pool so
she gets used to the water,” he
said.
“People need to do this when
they are a puppy then they won’t be
scared.”
