Pumas’ mixed results

THE Pakenham Pumas Baseball
Club opened up the Dandenong Base
ball Association’s 2010 season with a
win and a loss from its two senior
games on Saturday in glorious condi
tions at Oakleigh.
Taking on the combined clubs of
Oakleigh and Ormond Glenhuntly,
the first IX got on the board straight
away with two runs, only for OOG to
hit back with three of their own.
The second innings saw OOG add
another two runs to increase its lead
to three while the Pumas were unable
to get on base.
The scores remained on 5-2 after
the third innings with the Pumas
unable to score with loaded bases.
The bats came alive in the fourth
innings as the Pumas got one run in
off an errant pitch and again loaded
the bases.
This time shortstop Danny Mul
lett launched a huge hit out into left
field, a home run anywhere else, to
get the three base-runners home.
Pakenham Pumas finally won 12-9.
Simon Ferris did well on the mound
for 120 pitches, backed up nicely by
Danny Mullet who managed one dou
ble, three triples and seven RBIs.
In the earlier game the second IX
battled hard but started its comeback
too late in the game going down 3-6.
