Drainage done, cash overflows

A THIRTY SIX per cent refund is exciting news in anyone’s language.
Residents in Bunyip’s Wattle Tree Road will receive a 36 per cent refund after a special charge scheme to fix the road and drainage was completed under budget.
Councillor Bill Pearson said he was very pleased to announce that residents would receive the refund and that the drainage works had already been proven successful following several heavy downpours in recent weeks.
“It’s a great, great outcome,” Cr Pearson said.
His colleague councillor Ed Chatwin said special charge schemes were a very traumatic issue in the shire.
“It brings out the best and worse in people,” he said.
“Generally, the cost to the landowner is always considered too high and it’s great to be able to put money back into the pockets of ratepayers and it benefits the council too,” Cr Chatwin said.
