Brakes put on Bunyip BMX

PLANS are progressing to broaden the appeal of Bunyip’s BMX park to ensure it is an asset for the entire community.
Cardinia Shire Council is preparing updated designs for the park, in Wattle Tree Road, and will present these to the local community for feedback prior to moving ahead with improvement works.
General Manager Community Well-being Fiona Hodges said council was committed to making the park an asset all local residents could be proud of and benefit from.
“Council remains committed to fulfilling the original intent – providing a suitable place where young people can ride and develop their BMX skills. Council also wants the park to be welcoming and attractive for mums and dads, younger children, families and older people,” Ms Hodges said.
“To help ensure this facility has broad community appeal, Council recently met with representatives of the local community, including neighbours, parents and other members of the public. This group has provided an initial step to progress the planning and further consultation to be undertaken for the future development of the site.”
He said picnic areas, play equipment for younger children, bike paths and further landscaping and planting in the area are among the options suggested as part of a broader vision of the park.
“We are also continuing to work with BMX Victoria and Bicycle Victoria. Their advice will help ensure the BMX component provides a safe and enjoyable environment for all levels of riders, including beginners,” he said.
Ms Hodges said council was seeking design concepts from companies to guide modification works at the park. It is intended that these concepts will be presented to the community in late May for feedback prior to finalisation and works commencing.
The consultation sessions are to be advertised broadly, including on the council’s website www.cardinia.vic.gov.au. Information gathered during this process will then lead to the finalisation of design and subsequent modification works,” he said.
“Council will continue to work with local residents to complete this important facility and is keen to make sure we get the right outcome.”
