Buyer competition for smaller yard

NUMBERS at VLE Pakenham were down on two weeks ago, which resulted in solid competition across most categories of cattle yarded.
Most of the regular buyers were present.
A large variation in quality and finish allowed processors, feedlotters and restockers to all be active throughout most of the sale.
Vealers and yearlings remained firm on the rates of a fortnight ago, as did the smaller penning of grown steers and heifers.
The best of the vealer steers topped at 227 cents per kilogram for a heavy B3 score, with most C score 2s and 3s selling around 190 cents per kilogram.
Feeders and restockers were operating in the 160 cents to 185 cents per kilogram bracket. Yearling C3 steers made to 195 cents per kilogram with most selling in the 162 cents to 180 cents per kilogram range.
Feeders and restockers were providing a solid base on any pens offered that were lacking finish.
Grown steers made to 187 cents per kilogram. Well finished medium D3 steers made from 162 cents to 179 cents per kilogram to average 172 cents per kilogram.
The VLE draw for the week commencing Monday 10 May is as follows: 1, SEJ; 2, Alex Scott; 3, Landmark; 4, Rodwells; 5, Everitt and Seeley; 6, Mick Hornsby; 7, Elders; 8, Nathan Gibbon.
The next Store Sale is Thursday 13 May commencing at 10am
