KEYSBOROUGH consigned ROC to its third straight loss of the season after a solid 38-point win at the Officer Recreation Reserve.
The Burra remained undefeated under new coach Brad Canavan, who wasn’t entirely pleased with his team’s performance.
“The scoreboard flattered us, to be honest,” Canavan said. “No disrespect to ROC, but I thought we were patchy and very unconvincing and it was our worst win for the year.”
Keysborough led by 12 points at the first change and 14 points at half-time, before kicking eight goals to five in the second half.
“We just got the job done. I think we had a few more mature bodies. We were just able to get on top at some vital stages.
“ROC were very good. Their best six players played well. They really troubled us until we got the match-ups right and we were able to sort of quell them a little bit. It wasn’t until then that we were able to get on top.”
ROC coach Kris Fletcher can see his team improving, but believes the side needs to work hard in order for them to capture its first win.
“We played two and a half quarters (of good football), which is an improvement over (the) Devon Meadows (match in round three),” Fletcher said. “It’s a slow, gradual improvement, but we’re not really happy with the way we’re going. It’s up to the players, myself included, to turn our form around. We’ve just got to work harder on the training track.
“We’ve got to increase our work rate. We’ve got to become more focused on getting to training on time and making sure we’re doing the right things on the training track.
“We’re a young list and we’re improving, but if we want to keep improving, then we have to work harder than we’re doing now. Too many blokes don’t want to do that hard work.”
Defender Will Gayfer was Keysborough’s best player, spoiling many attacks and providing some run. Tyson King (four goals) and Jason Scandizzo (three goals) were prominent in the forward line. Winners around the ground were Michael Downie, Scandizzo, Karl Schoenmaekers, and Tyson and Clinton King.
ROC captain Ash Comer led his team superbly. He received support from Paul Bright and big man Callum Wright, who went forward and finished with four goals.
