Help for safer places

CARDINIA Shire Council has welcomed State Government funding to assist with the assessment and designation of Neighbourhood Safer Places (NSP) in the shire.
This year’s State Budget has provided an additional $500,000 to the Municipal Association of Victoria to assist with the ongoing maintenance of NSPs.
Gembrook is the only township in the shire that has a designated NSP despite Cockatoo and Upper Beaconsfield also being on the list of 50 high risk bushfire areas.
Council emergency management coordinator Paul Dickson said when other sites were designated the funding would help to maintain them.
“At this stage rigorous assessments of further potential sites in the shire are currently being undertaken by council officers,” he said.
