POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious collision in Longwarry on Sunday.
The Baw Baw Traffic Management Unit has been told the driver of a Ford Falcon sedan travelling east on Sand Road attempted to cross over Princes Highway and collided with a Mitsubishi dual cab utility travelling north on the highway.
The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old Trafalgar man and his 24-year-old female passenger, were unharmed in the collision. However, a 34-year-old Langwarrin man driving the utility was taken to Dandenong Hospital with suspected head and spinal injuries.
His three passengers, a 34-year-old female and two children, also from Langwarrin, were taken to Warragul Hospital with minor injuries.
Police will investigate if mechanical failure was a factor in the collision.
