Ben’s ready for UK tour

PADDING up against the Poms in cricket’s motherland; it’s the stuff of fantasy for most Australian blokes.
Pakenham teenager Ben Spicer is about to become one of the lucky ones who live it.
Spicer, 18, will jet off to England next month as part of a touring party organised by the Wanderers Australia cricket program.
The program is designed to offer emerging club or school cricketers the chance to hone their skills on foreign soil while taking in some of the sights along the way.
For Spicer, a right-handed batsman who plays for Premier outfit Casey-South Melbourne, the opportunity was too good to pass up.
“Ever since I started watching the Ashes, I’ve always wanted to go there, experience Lords, sight-see and play some cricket,” he said.
“I just thought it’d be pretty exciting.”
The former Pakenham Upper junior will join players from across Australia in a series of games against English club sides, played in picturesque village green surroundings.
The three-week tour includes visits to Lords and Old Trafford stadium, the home of soccer powerhouse Manchester United, as well as a trip to the World War I battlefields of northern France, before finishing in Paris on 11 July.
