Bullocks and steer lead the way

BULLOCKS and steers were the best sellers in the Fat Cattle Sale at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last Wednesday.
Both recorded a slight to moderate rise.
Quality was very good for both categories.
Heifers and vealers sold to good demand but were held back by the inclusion of light quality head and some very light stores.
Even considering this the demand was also weaker and also contributed to the lower prices.
Eighty six bullocks made from 146 cents to 182.2 cents and rose 2.5 cents to average 172.7 cents.
One hundred and seventy one heifers slipped five cents to 156.4 cents with prices ranging from 98.6 cents to 192 cents.
One hundred and seventy five steers managed a good range starting at 125.6 cents and rising to 190 cents, with the average remaining steady at 169.6 cents, and 373 vealers of mixed quality eased six cents to 173.7 cents.
Heavy vealers made from 127.6 cents to 230.2 cents and the light veal 122.6 cents to 222 cents. On Thursday bulls remained firm also averaging 152 cents and made from 128 cents to 173 cents, with 24 penned.
Five hundred and forty seven cows sold to very strong demand, rising eight cents to 136.5 cents, with the top quality cows making up to 170 cents, with the range beginning at 70 cents.
