PAKENHAM RSL has welcomed Thelma Rhein as their new president after former president Ray Caldwell stepped down from the top job last week.
Thelma was 18 when she joined the World War II effort, acting on advice from her father who was a soldier at Gallipoli.
She intended to be a nurse but soon found herself working as a stewardess for the air force because they were short on numbers.
