Dangerous intersection

BERWICK’S busiest intersection is the most dangerous in Casey.
The intersection of Clyde Road and the Princes Freeway has been the site of 12 collisions this year, more than double any other Casey intersection.
The figures, released by Victoria Police last week, ranked Casey as the second most dangerous place on Victoria’s roads behind Melbourne’s CBD.
Of the 56 Police Service Areas in Victoria, Casey represented 3.14 per cent of the entire state’s road trauma.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) said the Princes Hwy and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, Clyde Road and Princes Freeway and Princes Highway and Webb St intersections were the main areas on concern.
He said police had been aware of the problem intersections for sometime and would be stepping up patrols in the area.
“Our main concerns in these areas are the number of serious injury collisions we are having,” Sen Const Inderwisch said.
“These have a high toll on the community, both emotionally and financially.
“These are areas we want to target to reduce the road trauma.”
Sen Const Inderwisch said police had methods in place to try to reduce the road trauma in these problem areas.
“We will be stepping up both mobile and static patrols in the areas,” he said. “As well as adopting the help of outside agency’s including the State Highway Patrol Operations Unit who will be assisting us time to time in targeting those areas.”
“People can expect to see greater police presence at these spots.”
While there have been no fatalities at these intersections this year, 12 collisions have occurred at Clyde Road and Princes Freeway intersection, five at Princes Highway and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road intersection and three at Princes Highway and Webb Street.
