Reaching out to veterans

THE Victorian Branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia (VVAA) is conducting a statewide series of veteran welfare information sessions.
A local session is being held in Warragul today (Wednesday, 2 June) at 11am at the Warragul RSL, 94 Albert Road, Warragul.
VVAA Spokesman John Ockwell said the association wanted to reach as many Vietnam veterans as possible.
“We want to get our vitally important welfare message to them and their families. The information sessions will also be of great value to older veterans and to our peacemakers, peacekeepers and younger veterans,” Mr Ockwell said.
“We extend an invitation for all to attend these very important information sessions, irrespective of whether they are members of our association or not.”
The West Gippsland VVAA Sub-Branch will be hosting the local information session and president Gary Elliott said the welfare presentations had taken on even more importance following last year’s bushfires – when many veterans who had lived in the area for many years came out of the woodwork.
Other Victorian ex-service organisations will be represented, and pensions and welfare officers will be in attendance. Light refreshments will be provided.
