Weed-wise whistle sounded

HARMFUL and environmental weeds on private land continue to pose a big threat across Cardinia Shire.
Cardinia Shire Council is reminding residents that weeds are everyone’s responsibility.
The council’s weed management officer Marianne Sawyer said there was a constant battle between those that addressed their pest plants and landowners across the fence that didn’t.
Weed control grants of up to $500 are available to landowners to assist in eliminating weeds such as ragwort, blackberry, Paterson’s curse, spear thistle and sweet pittosporum. Application forms are available online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au or by contacting 1300 787 624.
Grant funding is allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis subject to selection criteria that is available on council’s website. For further information about weeds, residents can refer to council’s weed identification booklet which is available online at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au.
