Bridge across the nation

TWENTY members of the Berwick Bridge Club took part in the Australia-wide Novice Pairs Competition on Monday 3l May, playing a five table Howell Movement. The game was won by Val Harmon/Melissa Nouza, second Ray Decker/Pat Schelling and third Terry Sheafe/Angela Larsen. Remaining members played a nine table Mitchell Movement. North/South: first Heather Saunders/Bert Romeijn, second Peter Ditchfield/Chris Fernando and third Shirley Collins/David Yoffa.
East/West: first Julie Day/Matthew Tiplady, second Alan Saultry/Ron Hubbard and third George Ashby/Gretta Hammond.
On Wednesday afternoon 18 pairs played a nine table Mitchell Movement. North/South: first Frank Knipping/Henryka Ballingall, second Michelle Leach/Henk Van Der Ven and third Bob Parker/Dianne Nicol. East/West: first Jim Dow/Jan Smith, second Shirley Collins/Helen Black and third Patrick Morgan/Ellwyn Miskin.
Thursday 3rd June eight pairs played a four table Howell Movement in Event No. 11 of Nationwide Pairs won by George Ashby/Peter Ditchfield, second Shirley Collins/Heather Saunders and third Dianne Nicol/Alan Saultry.
The second round of the Friday Red Points event was played in two sections, 10 pairs played a five table Howell Movement won by Gwyn Hughes/Annette Kirby, second Lorna Naug/John Jongen and third Heather Saunders/Bert Romeijn.
Twelve pairs played a six Table ¾ Howell Movement won by Rob Osborne/Ashley Davies, second Michelle Leach/Henk Van Der Ven and third Patricia Beazley/Jon Leo.
Learn and Improve: Regular classes on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10am are conducted at Brentwood Community Centre for complete beginners and the improving player.
