Rises recorded in most cattle classes

THERE were good gains for vendors last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, as rises were recorded in all categories except the lighter quality steers.
Demand was strong and only condition held the steers back.
Fifty three bullocks gained around one cent to 176.5 cents with a good high of 185 cents. Bullocks started at 152 cents this sale.
Eighty three steers saw the better end make to 183.2 cents, the low was a reasonable 135 cents with a fair percentage in the lower end saw the average slip three cents to 167 cents.
Sixty eight heifers rose eight cents to 155.8 cents with a range of 121.2 cents to 190 cents.
Three hundred and twenty four veal lifted their average five cents to 185.5 cents.
Very good quality was evident in the prices as the top made to 232 cents. Heavy veal ranged from 130 cents to 232 cents and light 110 cents to 215.2 cents.
Both bulls and cows on Thursday saw a good rise as demand continues to hold prices up.
Fourteen bulls made to 177 cents which was two cents better than last sale.
Bulls averaged six cents better at 157.9 cents.
Six hundred and twenty nine cows rose five cents to 135.5 cents, with a range from 90 cents to 170 cents.
A few bullocks were sold and made from 146 cents to 172 cents to average 155.3 cents.
