Waste in name only

RESIDENTS took Cardinia Shire Council’s e-waste collection day on 22 May to another level with an 80 per cent increase on electronic recyclables compared to last year.
With 92 TVs or monitors, 45 computers, 36 printers and many other items, a total of 3034kg of electrical equipment was taken to council’s Purton Road depot in Pakenham for recycling.
Waste Education officer Ella Boyen said many electrical items would have otherwise gone out as hard waste and straight to landfill.
“I commend all the residents who dropped off their unrepairable items for recycling,” Ms Boyen said.
“I hope the next e-waste collection day is even bigger.”
Many unrepairable electrical items are still out for the hard waste collection.
There will be another free e-waste recycling day this year.
If the waste is not collected by the end of this week, advise the contractor – WM Waste Management Services on 9721 1915.
