THE LABOR Party has announced its candidate for Bass in the State Election.
Inverloch resident and former teacher Gerry Lonergan says he’s the man for the job and strongly believes Labor Party beliefs will benefit the local community.
Born and bred in Korumburra, Mr Lonergan said he first became a member of the Labor Party in 1996 to support a colleague.
This year is the first time he will run.
“I’m putting myself out there, and I have got a bit of flak from some people,” Mr Lonergan said.
“But it’s been mainly positive.” He said a major issue in the Bass electorate was the need to manage growth in the area and ensure there were enough health and transport services to meet the population.
“I think I could help with the management of that,” he said.
Mr Lonergan said he understood Kooweerup residents wanting a bypass but said he could not give a timeframe on delivery if he was elected.
“I drive through Kooweerup on my way to the city if I catch the train,” he said.
“And I understand the traffic there can be very busy.”
