Snow to greet Queen’s birthday

THE white stuff fell on cue for the June long weekend opening, with 10 centimetres of snow covering the ground.
“This is the first time since 2003 that Mt Baw Baw has had snow on the ground for Queens Birthday,” says Mt Baw Baw CEO, Leona Turra.
There was lots of fun and excitement at Mt Baw Baw, with over 1000 people staying on the mountain over the long weekend.
Some of the highlights included Channel Ten, The Circle Host and Neerim South local, Denise ‘Ding- Dong’ Drysdale officially opening the snow season, kids on toboggans and lots of snowballs being thrown.
In true Denise-style, she entertained the crowds in a snow-white outdoor kitchen, cooking her famous Smashed Potato recipe (using local Thorpdale spuds), along with Gippsland chief Ray Garrad, who used locally raised venison to tempt the taste buds.
As new ambassador for the resort, Denise Drysdale was on a busy schedule for the first day of opening weekend at Mt Baw Baw.
No sooner had she put more potatoes in the oven, than she had to run over to judge Baw Baw’s Got Talent at the Alpine Hotel.
