Anger fuelled

Ms Hansen-Nooy hit the streets of Pakenham to hand out 1000 flyers, declaring McGregor Road as a beautiful place to shop – but “not for long”.
“A lot of locals agreed with me, and I was very happy with the response,” she said.
The flyers advertise a protest that Ms Hansen-Nooy has organised for Friday at 4.45pm, at the proposed service station site.
Ms Hansen-Nooy said she had also put her house on the market.
“I love my house, I love this area, but I am not going to live near a petrol station and have my family sleeping above thousands of litres of petrol,” she said.
Furious Heritage Springs residents refuse to accept the approval of a 24-hour petrol station in the estate.
Residents say that notices were sent out while they were away for the Christmas break, so that they were unable to appeal the decision.
Cardinia Shire spokesperson Paul Dunlop said it was incorrect for objectors to say the service station development was snuck in ‘under the radar’.
“The advertising period for the service station was in September-October. Four objections were received but, with no appeals lodged against council’s Notice of Decision within the prescribed time, a permit was granted in March,” Mr Dunlop said.
Council said the petrol station was appropriate for the area, which had been zoned for business and disagreed with residents who said it would make the busy road conditions worse.
