Call for fire support

BERWICK Fire Brigade is looking for volunteer firefighters.
The brigade is starting a recruitment campaign in an effort to attract more members.
Berwick Fire Brigade captain Alan Boyd said they were looking for mature men and women who wanted to make the community safer. Potential members will need to live or work in Berwick, and preferably be within one to two kilometres of the Reserve Street fire station, near the Berwick Railway Station.
Captain Boyd said the new recruits would go through a well-structured induction and training program, lasting several months.
The Berwick Fire Brigade is a volunteer organisation, with no full-time firefighters in the district.
“Members have different levels of activity, and it is not a case of being available all the time,” Captain Boyd said.
“Members are only asked to make the level of commitment which suits their situation.”
Captain Boyd said Berwick was one of only five CFA brigades in the state, which supports the Ambulance Service in emergency medical response.
